            Lateral canals can occur in the middle of the root as well

                     It can be seen from previous cases that most lateral canals exist at the apical third
                                                                                      #
            of the root, however, here, the pre-operative radiograph of tooth  24 revealed not only a
            complex  root  canal  system  at  the  apical  portion,  but  also  a  radiolucent  lesion  distal

            mid-root (Fig 5A). In these cases, the dentist will need to give extra consideration not
            only to the apical portion, but also this lateral canal that possibly exists at distal mid-root
            (Fig 5B). Patients should be informed of the possible complex lateral canal system, and
            special  attention  should  be  made  to  disinfect  the  entire  canal  system  by  utilizing
            ultrasonic irrigation.
