P. 25
Conclusion
The years learning from Dr. Schilder at Boston University not only introduced
the author to cutting edge root canal treatment techniques, but most importantly, the
comprehensive idea and philosophy of endodontics. In addition, emphases were placed
on strict adherence to regular follow-ups, allowing the dentist to observe the course of
healing and learn from each case to improve his or her diagnostic abilities and treatment
skills. All the cases presented in this chapter demonstrate suspected locations of lateral
and accessory canals based on the pre-operative radiograph. It is the author’s hope that
after reading this, all dentists will be able to provide fast and accurate treatment for
patients that present with similar situations as discussed above.
Dr. Schilder’s Remark:
If the tooth (infection source) is extracted, the healing is equivalent to that which
occurs after endodontics. The challenge is to eliminate the root canal system
(source of infection) without taking out the tooth
In the next chapter, the author will be discussing the material used to obturate
canals and discuss if extruded sealers will have an effect on the surrounding periodontal
structure.
