Note Based on the lesion progression during and after treatment, the author suspects
the following two scenarios may have contributed to the lesion development:
#
1) 37 was already periodontally compromised, and additional occlusal trauma
had resulted in a broken amalgam restoration and fractured tooth structure
that ultimately led to pulpal disease; or
#
2) 37 had a true endo-perio combined problem. This means that the pulpal and
periodontal diseaseswere occurring individually but simultaneously and was
exacerbated by occlusal trauma.
